Parent Involvement
Parent involvement encompasses the more common, day-to-day activities that parents do to support their child’s learning focusing on:
- Positive Engagement with Homework: Ensuring that children complete their homework and providing help when necessary.
- Attending Parent-Teacher Interviews: Attend meetings with teachers to discuss their child’s progress and areas for improvement.
- Reading Together: Spending time reading with their child to enhance literacy skills and foster a love for reading.
- Following School Communications: Staying updated with school emails, newsletters, and announcements to keep informed of their child’s educational environment.
- School Involvement: Parents can volunteer to assist in the classroom by helping with various tasks under the teacher's guidance. In a primary setting this might include activities such as reading groups, helping to organise and manage classroom materials, or assisting during art projects or science experiments. In secondary school, Canteen and other opportunities are available for school involvement.
Parent Engagement
Parent engagement involves a deeper and closer school partnership that shapes the overall educational experience for the students.
- Participating in Parent Engagement Groups: Joining school committees, forums or advisory groups where discussions focus on supporting the school’s strategic direction and enhancing parent involvement. Each CSBB school has its own unique parent engagement structure tailored to meet the needs of its community.
- Fundraising and Organising Community Events: Supporting the organising of school events that build community engagement.
- Advocacy: Advocating for the importance of family and carer engagement to supports within the school community.
- Pathways and Partnerships: Volunteering as a mentor to students by sharing career expertise or providing support for their academic and personal development.
- Self-Education and Upskilling: Parents can engage by attending workshops and courses to better support their children’s learning.
Being both involved and engaged are valuable and can complement each other to create a supportive and enriching environment for children.
CSBB supports these structures through the provision of workshops, online resources, and close collaboration with school leadership teams to foster informed and well-resourced parent bodies.
